Lake Ilopango, a huge crater lake; very beautiful!

The group in from of Lake Ilopango

This picture as well as those below were taken in Santa Cruz Analquito, where considerable earthquake damage occurred. There was much reconstruction going on. Note the liberal use of "re-bar," (reinforcing rods--to reduce damage in subsequent possible earthquakes).

Alphonso standing next to a temporary shelter put up by CARE. It was a plastic cloth material that was much cooler than the corrugated metal buildings (dubbed "microwave ovens" because of the heat buildup) as seen below.

Eating in Santa Cruz Analquito. Note the welded "re-bar" beams holding up the roof. This was a common building material throughout El Salvador.

The overseer of the reconstruction process, standing behind Christina. Nice strong cinderblock walls.

This wall was vertical before the earthquake...

...as was this one. Note the new construction behind the leaning wall. There are bamboo poles holding up that wall. It was curious that they didn't either straighten it up or take it down.
